2018 Apprenticeship Application Dates Announced

The Hartford Electricians JATC accepts applicants once a year, for a two week period, usually in January or February.  This year, the Committee has selected February 5th-17th, 2018.  Applications will be available at our office, Monday through Saturday, from 8 am-12 pm, and additionally Friday nights, the 9th and 16th, from 5pm-8 pm.  

Applicants must meet four minimum qualifications in order to be considered for selection.  

1) Applicants must be atleast 17 at time of application

2) Applicants must have earned a high school diploma, GED, graduating in June 2018, or a two-year associate degree or higher

#) Applicants must have taken and passed Algebra, at a minimum, or the NJATC Tech Math Course (www.electricaltrainingalliance.org)

4) Be drug free

Applications may only be filled out in person, and applicants are asked to bring a photo ID with current address in order to complete the application.  All official sealed transcripts must be post marked no later than 30 days (March 17, 2018).  It is the applicants resposibility to ensure that our office has received the transcripts by that date.

The NECA & Local 35 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) is a partnership between the Connecticut Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 35 of Hartford, Connecticut.  We provide the highest quality trained instructors who teach our students and produce the most qualified electricians in the state of Connecticut.
 

We offer a career in the electrical industry, not just a job.

The apprentice program is a five-year program that consists of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training along with five years of related theory.  Up to sixty (60) JATC training credits can be applied toward a two or four year college degree, thereby saving you both time and expense.

While working on the job, you will be learning the skills and knowledge that are required to perform the task of a state licensed and qualified electrical worker.  In the evening while attending classes, you will reinforce the skills you are learning on the job through related theory classes.

If you are willing to make the commitment to the Program there is NO COST for the training.  Students only have to purchase their educational materials each year.  Apprentices employed by a contractor will not only receive a decent wage, but will also be entitled to a great benefit package including Health & Welfare, Pension, and Annuity.  First year apprentices receive Health & Welfare and NEBF only.  Apprentices begin receiving other pension and Annuity benefits in their second year, unless on a prevailing wage project.  If an apprentice is on a prevailing wage project, they will earn their percentage of the journeymans's wage based upon their hours registered with the Connecticut Department of Labor, and full annuity and pension.

 Apprenticeship Pay Rates

  • 1st Period - 40% of JW rate plus Health Insurance and NEBF
  • 2nd Period - 40% of JW rate plus Health Insurance and NEBF
  • 3rd Period - 50% of JW rate plus pensions and 50% annuity
  • 4th Period - 60% of JW rate plus pensions and 60% annuity
  • 5th Period - 70% of JW rate plus pensions and 70% annuity
  • 6th Period - 80% of JW rate plus pensions and 80% annuity

We Are Selective

We are seeking men and women who demonstrate the best CHARACTERISTICS, APTITUDE, MOTIVATION and PERSONALITY traits conducive to our trade. 

A good candidate is one with a record of having done well in school, especially in math and science, one who has demonstrated reliability and a sincere desire to succeed, and one who has a positive attitude and desire to work hard.
 
Application Process

All applicants are required to obtain a copy of their high school transcript.  Please contact your school and have them provide you with in a transcript in a sealed envelope and with an original stamp.

After the application period has closed, the JATC will notify qualified candidates as to the date, time, and place where they will be given the NJATC Aptitude Test administered by the JATC.  Based upon the results of the aptitude test, applicants will be notified if they qualify for an interview by the JATC Committee.

After applicants have been interviewed, the class will be selected.  All applicants accepted into the Program are required to pass a drug test.

The school year begins in August/September of each year and classes continue into May/June.  On-the-job training is performed throughout the year and is not limited to the school year.
